Penyfan Dawn Ascent

We had some friends staying in the house this weekend and on Saturday morning we set off at 6am to be at the top of Penyfan for sunrise.  It was amazing. It was a fantastically clear and starry night. There’s virtually no light pollution (apart from our torches). After half an hour or so, we saw signs of dawn over the Black Mountains to the East.  It was freezing. About zero at home, but we think about -15 at the top, with the wind chill factor.  But it was so, so stunning. And the most surprising thing was that we weren’t the only people up there. There were 2 or 3 other people.

The photos aren’t brilliant because it was so painful taking my gloves off…
